Stealing Sheep: “I Am the Rain”.

So, according to our sources this might actually become the next big thing and it’s easy to see why: First, these three lovely girls are hailing from Liverpool, and as we all know England is the natural epicenter of hypes. Second, these three lovely girls are really really lovely. And third, Stealing Sheep‘s (oh that name!) folk nicely sits somewhere between Mountain Man and some rather Brooklyn-ish weirdo pop (think Chairlift, or Au Revoir Simone with that wonderful e-piano in the beginning of Your Saddest Song), with the girls’ pretty stunning three-part harmonies working as the breathtaking focal point of each song. The overall tone is catchy, pure sugary indie pop on the surface that still barely manages to cover all those dark and twisted edges that are never too far away. Basically, this music is so well-crafted that in our eyes, at least Stealing Sheep would deserve to become the next big thing (See? We said it).

The trio’s latest 7 inch I Am the Rain was released yesterday on London’s new boutique imprint Idle Fret. Get it now via Rough Trade.
