Europa.

Some heavily serious and seriously heavy shit from the francophone realms of Canada, minimal synth glory which is on par with anything and everything that the 80s have ever bred in this amazing genre, brought to life by Montréal weirdo enigma Bernadino aka Angel Femminielli. Nicely filtered, classic synth patterns and a monotone voice talking Italian about how could I know. The tune is a first mouthwatering cut from Femminielli's upcoming cassette on Hobo Cult Records, due early 2011. Recommended: Hype Williams at Madame Claude.

"Hype Williams are weird" (Ian Nelson, Friendship Bracelet). Yes they are my friend, but that sure doesn't make them less interesting (to be absolutely clear here, it doesn't make them more interesting, either). In any case, see for yourself tonight as we recommend showing up at their appearance at Kreuzberg's Madame Claude tonight, supporting Daniel Higgs back in their recently chosen homebase Berlin after a short trip through the rest of Europe. First up on tonight's lineup is the very young and homegrown psych-stranger Wyrd Starchild Sisters. Her Sinking Sun.

28 Nov 2010 — Henning Lahmann
Mat Cothran aka Coma Cinema's latest tune Her Sinking Sun, taken from his upcoming release Blue Suicide, a mellow and as usual rather melancholically toned Sunday afternoon tea of a song, has been quite heavily put into the remix cycle recently. The last man in line so far to put his artistic uniqueness into the product of Mat's songwriting craftsmanship is Edmonton, Alberta's glitchy synth pop mastermind Dylan Khotin-Foote, better known under his recording moniker Kumon Plaza. And especially combined with Rachel Levy's awesome video, having a calm and quiet afternoon tea might actually not be among the things you'd feel like doing while listening to Dylan's slightly terrifying production. Earlier: Head over here to listen to Mat's favorite songs of 2010. Mean It/Honesty.

28 Nov 2010 — Henning Lahmann
My boy Tim Perry from our favorite bunch of smoothest Colorado garage pop haziness Weed Diamond sent over two new demos that perfectly fit into these days of first snow and the beginning of forced christmas coziness when the only thing you really wanna do is get out of town with your people, towards the sea maybe, towards the sun for sure, with nothing but loads of beer in the trunk and some lazy days to spend together. I don't feel ready for winter, seriously. Adam of the Ontario-based indie band The Rest recently sent us this fantastic new track above which due to their upcoming album in 2011, with a slightly more raw and washed out sound than what we might remember from their lovely, a little Local Natives-like The Cried Wolf EP released back in June (which also includes a splendid cover of Robyn’s With Every Heartbeat below). See their bandcamp for more free stuff. The Rest - John Huston The Rest - With Every Heartbeat (Robyn cover) Read more →
