Video Premiere: Spastic Joy – “The Mission”.

Spastic Joy is the Montréal-based duo of Menes and Rubin Vitriol, and despite never having heard of them until like a few hours ago, their classy male/female vocals over that thriving restrained cold wave-infused synth line of the tune “The Mission” kicked in immediately. The whole affair gets only more delicate with the track’s accompanying video made by Ela Orleans aka movies for ears, a perfectly matching collage of snippets from movies by the congenial twins George (who recently passed away) and Mike Kuchar, famous for their absurdist lo-budget underground productions in NYC during the 60s, complete with cold-blooded executions and evaporating encounters with unidentified flying objects. A beautiful homage indeed.

Spastic Joy’s eight-track debut cassette God’s Lover is out now via Clan Destine Records.
