Premiere: Gypsy Treasures.

Back last June, when we covered LA psych artist Aria Jalali aka Railcars for the first time, I wrote about his then still unreleased track Stray Dogs of Wroclaw that it was “slightly reminiscent of Not Not Fun‘s label roster”. A couple of months later, it appears as if I wasn’t the only one thinking that way about these seriously deep explorations into the realms of drone music: Under his new Gypsy Treasures moniker, Aria is about to drop a cassette on everyone’s favorite LA label. Buried Goods is a brief collection of four tracks that are not new but rather a summarization of Aria’s psychedelic experimentations during the naughties. The tunes are all heavy trips informed by the long-gone past of Eastern European musical traditions, all cut up and manipulated with harsh noise, but still strangely true to the letter in a way that Zach Condon could only dream of. An absolutely intriguing, deeply captivating work from start to finish.

Order the tape now on Not Not Fun (artwork provided by Christian “Megazord” Oldham) or get the whole thing for pay-what-you-want over at bandcamp.
